Baltimore has added solid weapons to support second-year QB Lamar Jackson, and the Ravens are facing a Dolphins team in full rebuilding mode. Look for the Ravens to make a big statement.
The Ravens’ John Harbaugh emphasizes preseason results more than any coach, and it pays dividends in the real openers. The past two seasons, Baltimore has begun with a bang, trouncing Buffalo and Cincinnati by a combined score of 67-3. This spot is intimidatingly large for a Week 1 visitor, but Miami is in full rebuild mode, as suggested by a series of trades. Aging QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, with a limited supporting cast, could be under siege against the Ravens’ formidable defense. The injury report, which lists far more Dolphins than Ravens, and half-point spread drop from 7 are the clinchers.
Full disclosure: I'm on the Ravens bandwagon this year and have a ticket on them to make the playoffs. But this is an absurd line, considering how tough a place Miami is to play, especially early in the year. I expect Ryan Fitzpatrick to start early for the Dolphins, and they're a better bet with his experience in a single game. But even if Josh Rosen is the QB, I think this game could be close. Play the home 'dog here and hope the Florida in September trend continues for the home team.
