The deeper we get into each series, the defense gets better as the offense has no more surprises. The pace of play in Game 1 was a lot slower without Joel Embiid as Philadelphia had just 88 possessions, but it had 93 and 94 in the last two contests. I think both teams need to pick up their defensive play in order to move forward in the playoffs. Embiid and James Harden should control the basketball, but the Celtics' defense will be up to the challenge.
This has been one of the best values on the board for a while now, as Marcus Smart has gone over this total in 12 of his last 14 games. That includes the first three games of this series, and eight of the nine games the Celtics have played this postseason. He's averaging 18.3 points and assists per game in the series, and 17.3 in the playoffs.
Tobias Harris has very quietly had a nice postseason. He scored 20+ points in three of four games against the Nets despite being tasked with guarding Mikal Bridges. He has scored at least 14 points in six of seven playoff games this year while averaging 17.4 PPG. Harris has managed to eclipse this line in 36 of 47 career playoff games since being acquired by the 76ers. He is the only starter for the Sixers shooting over 50% in the postseason and has stepped up despite James Harden and Tyrese Maxey both struggling offensively. Harris is locked in and I think this line should be 15.5.
Marcus Smart had a fairly quiet regular season however he has elevated his play during the postseason. Not only has he increased his scoring by nearly 5 PPG but he has been significantly more efficient as well. Smart has eclipsed this combo line in 8 of 9 playoff games thus far, including every game of this series. I expect Smart to play upwards of 35 minutes as long as this game is competitive and I am surprised this line hasn't moved to 18.5. We will enjoy it while it lasts.
The Celtics have scored at least 114 points in every game this series, and Boston enters Game 4 on a 6-1 Over run. The76ers must try to keep up. In my simulations, Game 4 is producing 222 points. The Over is cashing 66 percent of the time.
