Understanding Public and Money
The Orioles lowballed a switch-hitting beloved member of their clubhouse because the GM is an idiot who is addicted to calculators and has zero people skills. He gets to face them in his first game for Toronto in a ballpark he has homered in six times in 27 career games. He is not afraid to sellout for power and I expect him to meet the moment here. Tony Taters is also facing a pitcher he sees well and has homered off before in 12 career ABs. He has legit bats around him at the top of this lineup and Orioles bullpen has some serious potential issues, too.
Jose Berrios is 10-1 with a 2.98 ERA vs O's and has 3.03 ERA vs them in last 7 starts. He is a fast starter with the best ERA in March/April and 2nd best K rate. He allows .638 OPS in the 1st month of season. O's are without Gunnar Henderson and their closer was not the same in spring coming back from Tommy John. Key bats like Vlad, Springer and Kirk hit the O's starter quite well. Anthony Santander and his 40-HR bat gets to face his former team Opening Day and he sees Zach Eflin well, too. I'll be fading O's a fair amount early - very tough schedule. Woulda been a great spot for Corbin Burnes.
Baltimore is without its best offensive player and one of the best in the majors in All-Star shortstop Gunnar Henderson -- and I think the O's got worse this offseason including losing 44-HR guy Anthony Santander. He's now with Toronto, which I think got a decent amount better in the offseason. And it's a contract year for both Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. Jays Opening Day starter Jose Berrios was great this spring, 10-3 with a 3.18 ERA at home last season and had a 2.77 ERA in two starts overall vs. Baltimore in 2024.
