The Giants aren't hitting much without the injured Evan Longoria, Tommy LaStella and LaMonte Wade (and the retired Buster Posey) with three runs or fewer in three straight games. I'm not sure they will even get that many tonight against Yu Darvish, who looked fantastic in his season opener. I trust him much more than counterpart Alex Cobb, who makes his SF debut. Cobb was good last year for the Angels but quite lousy the three years prior ... and I'm wondering if 2021 was simply a "contract-year" outlier. The Friars' Manny Machado, Eric Hosmer and Luke Voit have combined to hit five homers off him in their careers. This is actually one of those games where you might find the Giants +1.5 at some books and Padres +1.5 at others as it's basically a pick'em. I'll take San Diego getting that number at -170.

A home-friendly schedule to begin the season should benefit the Giants. I think they bounce back from Monday's loss and even the series against the Padres.

Alex Cobb will be making his Giants debut after coming off one of his best seasons in a while. These Padres hitters didn’t face him last season and I think that gives the pitcher an advantage. The Giants were just 11-8 against the Padres last season and 6-4 at home, which is why I laid off the Giants at -150 last night. However, this price is much more affordable facing a Padres team that used its top relievers last night. Yu Darvish pitched extremely well in his Opening Day start against the Diamondbacks, but he seriously struggled away from home last season. He was just 2-7 with a 5.54 ERA on the road. Darvish pitched well in his two home starts against the Giants last year but he was hit hard in his only start in San Francisco. The Giants were one of the best home teams in the league last season, take the Giants at home.
