The Brewers have lost their last five games, barely. Before the 2-0 loss yesterday at Philly, they lost three straight one-run games. The loss to start the streak was 16-4. On Friday, they face one of the best starters in baseball, Trevor Rogers. In six starts he’s allowed seven earned runs, and in three of his starts he allowed zero runs. The Marlins get the win.
Marlins starter Trevor Rogers is priced at -135 Friday, which is still too cheap. But at least oddsmakers are catching on a bit. This guy is a top-15 pitcher so far this season and I refuse to hear any objection. There are only five pitchers in the MLB with a better swinging-strike rate than him. That is some really good company. He already pitched six scoreless innings against the Brewers in Milwaukee, and now they face him in Miami as they try to stop a five-game slide. I think this is too tall a task, especially since Milwaukee has no starter and is going with a bullpen day. Play the Marlins on the money line and consider a first-five innings play as well.
This is a reasonable price on the Marlins, who just outscored the Diamondbacks 20-4 in a three-game sweep. The Brewers limp into Miami on a five-game skid, as they continue to miss Christian Yelich. Marlins rookie lefty Trevor Rogers dominated the Brewers on April 26, tossing six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Miami's bullpen has been brilliant lately and enters Friday with the second-best ERA (3.34) in the National League. Look for the Marlins to win their fifth straight home game.
