What...the Dodgers are only 9-11 as a true visitor this season? The Blue is wearing the bully label very well vs. outmanned foes at Chavez Ravine but is not having as much success vs. legit contenders on the road, as the D-backs are now poised to win three of four this weekend in Phoenix after last night's 3-0 win behind Corbin Burnes. Today on the hill it's Zac Gallen, whose last two starts were wins vs. the Mets, allowing just 2 runs and 4 hits thru 13 IP. Meanwhile Tony Gonsolin was not overly impressive in his first two starts this season, a split of two games vs. the lowly Marlins, while posting a so-so 4.09 ERA. Play D-backs on Money Line
It takes some risk-takers like paratroopers, oil-rig firefighters, or commodity traders to consider backing the Chisox on back-to-back days. Maybe we're in that group of daredevils, too by liking the Pale Hose in consecutive games...even after losing yesterday. But can't resist with this pitching matchup as Sean Burke has delivered quality efforts in his last two starts for the Sox, allowing just one run and six hits across 12 1/3 IP vs. the Royals and Brewers. Meanwhile, Sandy Alcantara continues to have a devil of a time n the mound for the Marlins, and it's not just been his very bumpy last two starts vs. the Dodgers (Alcantara also posted a 9.28 ERA in April). Play White Sox on Money Line
Let's see...how about a team on a seven-game win streak at a plus price like +130 and that team having won the last two outings made by its starting pitcher? Not a bad trifecta today for the Cardinals, who, speaking of trifectas, go for the sweep of the weekend set at Washington this afternoon behind the resurgent Miles Mikolas, in whose last two starts St Louis has won, and three starts has allowed just 3 runs across 16 1/3 IP (1.65 ERA). The Cards bullpen is also holding up well this weekend in D.C, while often impatient Nats batters haven't always helped MacKenize Gore, with Washington losing in five of his eight starts. Though the Dodgers did blast their way to a 14-11 win last night, they're not used to their staff getting banged around as the D-backs have done the past two nights. LA pitching has been getting worked over pretty well by the Arizona bats, and the Dodgers' wild-haired Dustin May hasn't been fooling anyone lately, surrendering 14 runs and 20 hits, plus 8 walks, in just 16 IP (7.88 ERA and 2.00 WHIP) his last three starts. Meanwhile, that was finally the Corbin Burnes we were expecting on the mound for the D-backs in his last start, allowing just one run and four hits in 6 IP while picking up the win over the Mets on April 30. Play D-backs on Money Line
This won't be a habit to lay a price with the White Sox, but make an exception here as it looks like the Pale Hose have found somebody they can beat. That would be the Marlins, who fell meekly 6-2 at the Rate last night and can't be too confident with Saturday starter Edward Cabrera, laboring with a 6.29 ERA into tonight, with Miami losing in four of his five starts, while the Marlins are 2-10 in their last 12. Meanwhile if there is one beacon of light on the Chisox side, it might be rookie fireballer Shane Smith, who brings a 2.41 ERA and 11.15 WHIP across seven starts into tonight. Play White Sox on Money Line
Tanner Bibee has pitched better than his 4.26 ERA would indicate, as two bad starts have really sidetracked his stats. For the most part, however, his efforts have been serviceable for Cleveland, including his last three starts in which he's allowed only 5 runs and 15 hits across 18 IP (2.50 ERA). The guardians are also off on the right foot in this series with last night's 6-0 win, and have to feel good about their chances to do it again on Saturday against Phils starter Ranger Suarez, whose 2025 debut was an unmitigated disaster last Sunday vs. the D-backs, allowing 7 runs and 7 hits across just 3 2/3 IP of a loss to the D-backs. Play Guardians on Money Line
Sacramento is a confirmed hitter's park as scorelines have been high since the first week of the season at Sutter Health Park. The pitching matchup tonight suggests it might be more of the same, especially for A's starter Osvaldo Bido, who might still wish the team was based in Oakland. His ERA in Sacto thus far is 6.32 (compared to 3.48 away). As for the visiting Yanks, Will Warren (5.65 ERA) is having a bit of a bumpy go, and his numbers on the road include a 7.07 ERA. In his last two starts, Warren's ERA is 7.88, allowing 13 hits and 5 walks in just 8 IP (2.25 WHIP). Likely lots of work for these bullpens tonight! Play Yankees-A's Over.
Oh my...oh my. Colorado is plumbing some depths, even well behind the win pace of last year's woeful Chisox, who had won 9 of their first 37. The Rockies are now 6-31 after getting swept by the Tigers in Wednesday's twin bill, and while pitching has long been a woe in Denver, Colorado isn't hitting much these days, either, only three runs scored across the twin bill yesterday. Anthony Senzatela needs all the support he can get, and we suspect that Padres counterpart Randy Vasquez (who's allowed two runs or fewer in five of his seven starts) and the San Diego bullpen will have a lot more runs to work with. Play Padres on the Run Line.
It's a homecoming of sorts tonight for Erick Fedde, returning to old stomping grounds at Nats Park where he pitched for six seasons earlier in his career. Now he's with the Cardinals, who enter D.C. with a bit of a spring in their step for the first time this season, carrying a five-game win streak that includes Fedde picking up a win on Sunday vs. the Mets. St Louis is also back at .500 and within three games of the Cubs in the NL Central. Meanwhile, it's been a couple of bumpy outings in a row for Nats starter Mitchell Parker, who's allowed 11 runs and 11 hits across just 9 IP in his last two starts. Play Cards on the Money Line.
It's almost time for the fake beards and sunglasses if the Blue Jays allow themselves to get swept by the Halos. It's been Toronto's bullpen, not the Halos version, that has failed the last two nights, as even usually-reliable Jeff Hoffman was unable to hold a 4-2 lead in the 9th inning last night. Chris Bassitt, with his 2.95 ERA, should get Toronto in position again to get a W at the Big A ...now, can the bullpen implode three straight nights? The erratic Halos starter Jose Soriano is off of an effective outing vs. the Tigers, on the heels of three subpar efforts in which he posted a 7.07 ERA. Play Blue Jays on the Run Line.
We don't have to get creative to make a case against the 6-29 Rockies, so it doesn't matter much who AJ Hinch puts on the mound to start the second game of this Thursday twin bill (Hinch apparently still undecided as of this morning). Desperate Colorado promotes Tanner Gordon from AAA Albuquerque to start the second game...the same Gordan who posted an 8.65 ERA in eight starts last season as he made his MLB debut. Hinch could opt to make this a bullpen game, but whichever pitcher is on the mound should get plenty of run support as the Detroit bats casually tallied 8 runs in Wednesday's win, the Rocks' 12th loss in 14 games. Play Tigers on Run Line (Gm 2 DH).
The Run Line need not be a deterrent to go against the 6-29 Rockies. The Tigers are certainly capable of extending the margin after they adjusted to Coors Field last night, banging out an 8-6 win and looking to do more damage this afternoon vs. Colorado starter Kyle Freeland, whose ERA in Denver sits at 8.53 this season. Casey Mize gets his first-ever start at Coors Field in Game 1 of this doubleheader but has been good value at any venue this season as Detroit has won in five of his last six starts. Impressively, the Tigers have the AL's best record after their slow start against the Dodgers when losing the first three at Chavez Ravine. Play Tigers on Run Line (Gm 1 DH).
