The "host" Chanticleers, have been strafed by the transfer portal in December, including both of their experienced FBS-level QBs, Ethan Vasko and Noah Kim. Frosh Tad Hudson, who has never thrown a college pass, is apparently going to start for HC Tim Beck, who has lamented the defections. Coastal likely leans on an infantry that motored for roughly 180 ypg this season. There is a risk backing "visiting" UTSA as the Roadrunners lost all six games away from the Alamodome this season. But Jeff Traylor's squad was playing its best down the stretch and has had few portal defections, plus QB Owen McCown displayed a hot hand leading an offense that scored 42 ppg the last half of the season. Play UTSA (Myrtle Beach Bowl)
Roadrunner QB Owen McCown gives UTSA the best chance because of his ability to generate the explosive play. When you couple that with how explosive UTSA is on offense, playing on a fast surface, this team should be able to score. Also, and most importantly, there weren't too many losses to the portal for them.
Coastal Carolina is playing at home but the team has been decimated by the transfer portal. Coastal will be without at least six starters on defense and must start freshman QB Tad Hudson, who has never taken a snap in a college game. UTSA started slowly but finished the season 3-1 with the lone loss a close 29-24 defeat at Army. Behind emerging quarterback Owen McCown, the Roadrunners averaged 41.7 points in those final four games. UTSA is a team I'm high on for next year and I think they keep the late-season momentum going with a blowout bowl win over Coastal Carolina.
