The bye week appears to have brought BYU's beleaguered rushing personnel back to health. A full complement of RBs is expected to take aim at Arizona's shaky ground defense. Arizona QB Noah Fifita has regressed, making the task easier for the Cougars' defense, though his protection has been shoddy. BYU has covered from the get-go in its unbeaten straight-up season, while the Wildcats are 1-4 ATS. The Coogs should find extra motivation from a rabid crowd that began rocking since ESPN's Game Day came on-air early in the morning.
Obviously OK pushing. Unbeaten BYU comes off a bye week and gets No. 1 RB LJ Martin back. He has been out since the team's second game. Even without his full stable of running backs, QB Jake Retzlaff has also improved every game. He has completed 61.2% of his passes for 1,208 yards and 12 touchdowns on the year. BYU averages 6.2 points per game off turnovers and those have been an issue for Arizona. The Cats had three giveaways last week in a loss to Texas Tech. They also have some injury problems on defense with senior defensive backs and team captains Treydan Stukes and Gunner Maldonado both injured vs. TTU and both expected out here (Stukes is done for the year).
As an alum and season ticket holder, the 2024 version of this Wildcats team is such a rollercoaster. Nothing like beating a top-10 Utah team soundly on the road before imploding against Texas Tech at home. I know BYU is undefeated this season and at home but here's a fun stat: since 2019, vs. FBS teams, BYU is 28-3 in darkness, 5-14 in full day games. Taking my bias out of it (as best I can), I truly believe Noah Fifita and the 'Cats bounce back and pull another road upset in Utah. Arizona 24, BYU 21.
