Sam Houston is one of the most run-heavy teams in the country and that means a lot of running clock -- it holds the ball an average of 33 minutes per game. Defensively, the Bearkats have allowed only 14, 13 and 11 points to teams somewhat in their same stratosphere. UTEP is among the worst teams in the nation and has been held to 17 points or fewer in three of its four games. This is the only 50.5 left on our board and I see a few 49.5s popping so maybe we get a tiny bit of value.
Sam Houston State had a great comeback last week against the high-powered Bobcats. The Miners are 4-0 to the under this season and not nearly have the offense that Texas State has. UTEP will start Cade McConnell tonight after coming back in the game against Colorado State. The Bearkats clearly have the better offense but it’s unclear with how much scoring UTEP will do with switching quarterbacks again while already struggling with converting on 3rd down and in the redzone.
Late last season we saw the Bearkats start to figure things out offensively, catching up to solid defensive performances. I'm not sure what can the Miners do offensively on a consistent basis against a Bearkats defense that's been impressive all season long. Now that they have a chance to make some noise, don't expect a slip up from SHSU.
