We had to read fellow SL expert Eric Cohen's take on this as he's Mr. Wildcat, and I pretty much agree with everything he said. Underdogs (well, Rutgers opened as one but closed as a favorite) won the first two games today outright to continue a trend. Oklahoma took much bigger hits via player defections led by QB Dillon Gabriel -- and offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. It has been a banner year for UA, so getting to 10 victories and earning its first bowl win since 2015 will matter.
A new era begins at OU with ballyhooed frosh QB Jackson Arnold, who gets the start in the Alamo Bowl after Dillon Gabriel hit the portal and landed at Oregon since the regular-season finale vs. TCU. Conversely, counterpart frosh UA QB Noah Fifita has had almost a full year under his belt, and was such gangbusters that he tossed 23 TDP despite starting just eight games. The Cats haven't lost since a bitter triple-OT decision at USC on October 7, steamrolling thru the Pac-12 in the process, beating four ranked teams in the process. It's asking a lot of Arnold to trade points in his first start against this Wildcats buzzsaw. Play Arizona (Alamo Bowl)
For those who don't know, I'm an Arizona alum and football season-ticket holder. I've seen the Wildcats play seven times in person this season and I can confirm, they're a legitimate tier 2 team in the 2023 college football season. Arizona has all the motivation and has only one notable opt-out for this game, starting LT Jordan Morgan. Oklahoma, on the other hand, is down a slew of players + their offensive coordinator, so I expect them to be somewhat out-of-sync. This win would mean SO much for the Wildcats program going forward. Arizona 34, Oklahoma 27.
The Arizona Wildcats are the best three-loss team I've ever seen. Since Freshman Noah Fifta took over, the Wildcats are 7-1 ATS and have won six straight games. The Wildcats have covered seven straight games vs ranked opponents, the longest active streak in FBS. The Sooners have struggled since their win over the Longhorns. With Dillon Gabriel's status for this game up in the air with him in the transfer portal, great time to hop on this.
