Throughout the years a team that has been discredited ATS wise in key games has been Washington State. We saw this in their victory over Wisconsin and in key Pac-12 games. Look for Cameron Ward to learn from last year’s loss against the Beavers in which the Cougars scored just ten points. Take the home underdog here in Washington State.
Amid all the hype surrounding USC and Colorado, the Beavers and Cougars have quietly put together breakout seasons. Both are among the eight Pac-12 teams that enter this weekend undefeated. Washington State has a dynamic offense that ranks No. 7 in the country at 49ppg and already has a home upset of Wisconsin to its credit. The Cougars also have an underrated home-field environment. The value is with the home underdog in what looks like a pick’em matchup.
This “Pac-2" showdown might not just be for the unofficial title of the splintering league, as the national rankings are now featuring each. As much as we respect the Beavers (13-3 last 16 vs spread) and the upside of ex-Clemson QB D.J. Uigalelei, he was a bit rattled by San Diego’s State pressure last Saturday, and Wazzu’s “Palouse Noose” and various blitz packages could prove further unnerving this week. This matchup only got to 34 (24-10 Beavers) last October and doubt we see any offensive explosion in Pullman, either.
What makes the Pac-12 so great this season is the QB play. In this game both QBs are outstanding. Washington State's Cam Ward gives you more on the ground than his counterpart. Also, he is less prone to turning the ball over. I like the Cougars defense in how they defend the run, and expect that to be the case against Oregon State, making them more one-dimensional than they'd like to be.
This should be a very close game with both teams scoring 30 or more points. Washington State is lead by electric QB Cameron Ward, who has thrown nine TD passes, zero interceptions while adding two rushing TD's. Clemson transfer DJ Uiagalelei has found a new home in Corvallis, Oregon. Uiagaielei has six TD passes in three games. Both teams are averaging better than 7.0 yards per play adjusted to SOS. My model has this game at 62 1/2.
