I will admit when I am wrong ... so rare though! Not really. I thought Houston was going to be awesome this year. Not so much. Again, this is really like SMU-UCF on Wednesday (same conference). I just like the home team. SL follower Kevin talked me into it even though he went to arguably the worst school on the planet. Random stats: Since the start of 2014, Memphis is 22-5 (.815) in non-Saturday games and 14-3 (.824) in games on Friday. The Tigers are 6-0 in Thursday night games and 10-0 at the Liberty Bowl in non-Saturday games. I don't think any of that matters but I need to fill space. Memphis rarely loses at home is the gist of it.
I don't have a lot of faith in either one of these teams. Houston has been a disappointment, and while Memphis is 4-1, it hasn't played anybody. What matters most of all, however, is the reason I don't have much faith in either one is they both have pedestrian offenses that lack explosive plays. So it doesn't make much sense to bet on them to be explosive tonight.
The Cougars have been a team downtrending ever since beginning the season with triple- and double-overtime contests. They’re lucky they aren't 1-4 overall. A positive is they have a knack for playing close games, as three of their five went to overtime. The matchup against Memphis is the type for which you can expect Houston to be ready. Look for the Cougars to at least cover and possibly end the Tigers' four-game winning streak.
