Rebels QB and Heisman candidate Matt Corral will sit out or he’ll play with a bum knee. Either way, the Ole Miss offense should be less dynamic than usual. Corral’s ability to extend plays would be compromised. The Tigers’ defense had Corral’s number last year, and that number was five -- interceptions. Before LSU ran roughshod over Florida last Saturday, its ground game ranked No. 127 in the FBS. Skepticism on repeating that performance is warranted.
Lane Kiffin has hinted Matt Corral might not play this week, but even if I expect him to, I don't think the Rebels will want him carrying the ball 30 times again like last week. I also expect LSU to continue trying to run the ball against an Ole Miss defense that's struggled to stop it. So, an LSU team intent on running the ball and an Ole Miss offense at less than 100% doesn't strike me as the kind of game where a total should be in the 70s.
I get that there’s reason to believe that this one will be a shootout after LSU’s breakout game vs. Florida, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. The Tigers know that they can pound the rock with Tyrion Davis-Price and keep Rebels quarterback Matt Corral on the sideline -- assuming that he plays. Even if he does, it’s safe to say that coach Lane Kiffin isn’t going to use him as the primary rusher again. Because of that, expect the Rebels offense to slow down a bit and this one to be relatively sloppy.
These Ole Miss totals are getting absurd -- we hammered the Under 82 last week between the Rebs and Tennessee and they combined for "just" 57 points. For what it's worth, Ole Miss QB and Heisman contender Matt Corral is banged up and technically questionable. No doubt in my mind he plays, but perhaps he's not quite the same, especially running the ball. LSU will try to play ball control with RB Tyrion Davis-Price, who went bonkers last week in the upset of Florida. Maybe this game gets to around 70 points scored, but I'd be shocked if they combine for more than 76.
