Alabama at Purdue, it's the big game tonight at Mackey Arena in Indiana. Both teams are 3-0 and Alabama has stayed under all three of their games. Purdue has played all three of their games at home and they've only covered once. They're a good shooting team at 54% on the season through three games but they played some low-level teams so far. Purdue’s problem is rebounding and defending. Braden Smith is the do-everything star but he's turning the ball over too much. Alabama covers.
Let’s make it three’s company for Alabama. The Boilermakers offense has been great to begin the season, 43.7% from behind the arc and 54.4% from the floor. However, this is the best defense they’ve seen yet. Alabama’s perimeter defense is one of the best in the nation especially with Mark Sears returning. They’ve been holding their opponents to 24.4% from three and 35.2% overall. The Crimson Tide’s Grant Nelson and Clifford Omoruyi are more physical than Will Berg as Purdue has struggled protecting the rim.
A bit strange to see Purdue without Zach Edey, now suiting up for the Memphis Grizzlies. The new 7-4 threat, frosh Daniel Jacobsen, is now out with a broken leg; Jacobsen had started the first two outings before going down early last Friday vs. Northern Kentucky. Look for 7-2 soph Will Berg to get more minutes moving forward. For the time being this is going to be a Boilermakers team driven by Gs Fletcher Loyer (17 ppg) and Braden Smith (15 ppg). Matchups don't look bad for Bame after competitive wins over very capable Arkansas State and McNeese State, as Nate Oats still has a loaded roster led by G Mark "Jalen Brunson of the SEC" Sears at 18 ppg. Gave this game out Alabama -1 on our Discord channel. Make sure to sign up there to get the best numbers. I do like Bama up to -3. This will be the Boilermakers first real test without Zach Edey. I’m concerned about their defense, particularly stopping athletic guards getting to the basket. Texas A&M Corpus Christi scored 73 points and shot 50 percent against Purdue. Yale scored 84 points and shot 64 percent. Alabama might be the most talented team in CBB. Mark Sears and Latrell Wrightsell headline a sick group of guards. Purdue has struggled to defend quick guards in the past. That could spell trouble here. I think Bama leaves with a statement win.
