Guess I'll bite now that we get 4.5. Butler has won five of six with that only loss to No. 1 UConn, and the Bulldogs surprised Marquette in Milwaukee on Jan. 10. The Golden Eagles haven't lost since that first matchup but had a couple close calls on the road and could be looking ahead to a trip to the No. 1 Huskies on Saturday. Butler is 13-0 this season when out-rebounding its opponent, and DJ Davis is the first Bulldog since Kelan Martin in February 2018 to score 20 or more in four consecutive games. Butler is 11-2 at Hinkle Fieldhouse this season and has scored at least 80 points in eight of its home games (90 points five times).
Butler scored a 69-62 win at Milwaukee vs. Marquette back on January 10, holding the Golden Eagles to a mere 32.9% shooting from the floor and even worse 16.1% (5 for 31) beyond the arc. Marquette hasn’t lost since but almost all of the past seven wins have come vs. mid and lower-rung Big East entries. The key in the rematch will likely be if Butler can again put the clamps on Shaka’s star PG Tyler Kolek, held to just 2 points on uncharacteristic 1 for 13 shooting in the first meeting. Not sure Butler can blanket Kolek again, but sometimes we get the feeling the Bulldogs can play tough vs. any team in the Midwest not named the Milwaukee Bucks. Play Butler
I like this spot for an undervalued Butler squad. This is a matchup between two of the hottest teams in the Big East. Marquette has won seven straight. The Warriors' last loss came on Jan. 10 at home to Butler. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 5-1 in their last six games with the lone loss coming at UConn. Butler defends the three-point shot well and that was key in the first matchup when the Bulldogs held Marquette to just 5-of-31 (16%) from long range. I think this line should be closer to even and Marquette has a huge game coming up on Saturday vs. UConn. I'll take Butler getting over a possession at home to cover the number.
