Carolina is the new betting favorite to win the Stanley Cup, and the Canes have been dominant in both games of this series. New Jersey should have some extra energy in front of its home crowd, but at the end of the day, these teams are simply on different levels. Carolina moves to 3-0.
So far, about what we expected in this series...not a lot of flash, perhaps to be expected with the Devils still minus Jack Hughes. New Jersey has missed its top scorer since early March and his absence is being felt in the playoffs; the Devils were already one of the worst five-on-five scoring teams in the league, and even with Dougie Hamilton returning to active duty, New Jersey's offense has yet to kick on in this series. Each of the first two games landed under and both of those included Carolina empty-netters late in the third period. Nothing wrong with the Devils defense and GK Jacob Markstrom, who's making saves at a .930 rate thus far in the series. Play Hurricanes-Devils Under
Offense remains an issue for the Devils minus top scorer Jack Hughes, scoring only once in each of the first two games and now looking up at a 2-0 deficit vs. the Canes. But New Jersey is hardly being skated off of the ice, and Jacob Markstrom (.930 saves in this series) is mostly holding his own in goal; remember, Carolina added empty-netters late in both Games 1 & 2 to pad the final margins. Recently-activated Dougie Hamilton did get an assist for the Devils in Game 2, and let's see how Carolina and GK Frederik Andersen fare at the Rock, after the Canes lost their last six away games at the end of the regular season.
