The Rangers remain an enigma in the betting market because they're being priced like an average hockey club based on pedigree and talent but their actual on ice performance suggests they're not even a fringe playoff candidate. Rangers have now lost 7 of 8 and are just 4-15 overall in their last 19. For a team that's struggled to suppress scoring chances and goals against things won't get easier with Igor Shesterkin landing on IR. The Rangers haven't been able to punch out of a paper bag, now losing fifteen of nineteen dating to November 21. Lineup changes and trades haven't seemed to work, and not even Jonathan Quick, who could be counted upon to keep the fuse lit in goal when Igor Shesterkin took the night off, has been trustworthy, losing all three of his December starts with a 3.74 GAA and .847 saves for the month. Only once have the Bruins dropped back-to-back games since Joe Sacco took over behind the bench in mid-November, and save one awful effort vs. the Jets on December 10, Jeremy Swayman just had a decent month in goal (.910 saves in his other nine December outings).
