Post Christian McCaffrey trade update: This massive line was forged from the QB matchup — Tom Brady, the G.O.A.T., versus P.J. Walker, the Who’s He? However, it no longer applies since on Thursday Carolina dealt its best player, RB Christian McCaffrey, knocking up the spread to 13. Tampa Bay averages just 20.2 points per game, so there remains risk in taking the Bucs. But Walker has been stripped of his only true weapon, and the Panthers will be fortunate to attain double-figure points. Perhaps the only hope now for a cover: With a short week and a Thursday nighter upcoming, the Bucs are not interested in a blowout as much as leaving Charlotte with a win and will call off the dogs.
The Bucs enter a road game against a questionable opponent as huge favorites. Last week, that scenario led to an outright loss for Tom Brady and Co. as the offense didn't appear to be in sync. I don't know that going back on the road in a divisional matchup will be what gets the Bucs offense going, but after getting burned by the Panthers last week, I'm more comfortable playing the Under here. Carolina didn't even try to have a pass offense last week, and we know how good the Bucs rush defense can be. The Panthers could very well fail to score an offensive TD for the second straight week, so I also love playing their team total Under 14.5.
