No team had a bigger coaching upgrade than the Jaguars. Trevor Lawrence is going to play much more efficiently under Doug Pederson; in 24 preseason dropbacks, the second-year pro had no turnover-worthy plays, per PFF. He also has a stronger supporting cast with the additions of Christian Kirk and Brandon Scherff and the healthy return of Travis Etienne. The Commanders' defense won't have Chase Young and looks just as bad as it was last year. Look for Carson Wentz -- who posted passer ratings of 74.1 and 78.6 versus the Jaguars last season -- to again struggle with inaccuracy as Jacksonville hangs close and potentially wins.
The Jaguars are debuting a new coach for the second straight Week 1, but I expect this time around to go far better with Super Bowl champion Doug Pederson at the helm. He should be able to get much more out of former elite prospect Trevor Lawrence this year, and with Washington down their best pass rusher with Chase Young on PUP, I believe the Jaguars have a big advantage on offense. The Commanders are adjusting their plans at RB on the fly after Brian Robinson's off-field injury, and they might not have Logan Thomas ready at TE either. I'm not sure I'd make Washington the favorite on a neutral field, and their home-field advantage is one of the worst in the league.
