A couple of tough losses in a row on this road trip for the Rockets and Dillon Brooks remains out (though his return is apparently imminent). Nonetheless the attraction here is to go against the Pistons, who have stated a new losing streak after snapping their 28-game skid on Dec. 30 vs. the Raptors. Still a "sell" on Detroit, which has lost its last three by 17 or more, and is without top two scorers Cade Cunningham and Bojan Bogdanovic again tonight. Play Rockets
Killian Hayes has benefitted from the absence of Cade Cunningham (knee). He has started both of the last two games, logging 31 and 32 minutes, respectively. He posted four rebounds and seven assists against the Kings, which he then followed up with four rebounds and 12 assists versus the Spurs. With Cunningham missing most of last season, Hayes averaged 2.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game. The Rockets will be missing two of their better defenders in Dillon Brooks (oblique) and Tari Eason (lower leg), putting Hayes in an even more favorable spot to hit this over.
The Pistons continue to play without Cade Cunningham (knee), who is the centerpiece of their offense. With him out the last two games, Jaden Ivey scored 22 and 19 points, respectively. That was despite him shooting a combined 4-for-19 from behind the arc. He’s only averaging 10.1 shot attempts per game for the season, but he attempted a total of 35 shots the last two games. His hefty increase in usage rate should help carry him to another productive night in the scoring column.
We're talking about a guy who averaging one block a game. He's gone four straight games without a block and should be able to find his opportunity against this Pistons lineup. No Cade Cunnigham means more 2-point attempt. Without Cunningham, the Pistons have been averaging around 64 2-point attempts. There should be enough volume for Sengun to find his block tonight.
