DraftKings. I like Jose Soriano in this spot. He broke out last season, clearing this line in 11 of his final 16 starts. So far this year, he’s 1/2, but has pitched into the sixth inning in each outing. He gets a Rays offense today that has struggled against ground ball pitchers (.693 OPS, and 24th in wRC against the sinker). Soriano is an extreme ground ball pitcher (89th percentile this season, 97th in 2024), who relies heavily on his power sinker. Traditionally better against lefties, Soriano will see five in the lineup today.
It is hot in Tampa and it's a day game, so the ball will be flying. Both Jose Soriano and Zach Littel are capable of throwing well, but this isn't the best situation and both can also be hit hard. I'm going with the latter here. It'll be a high-scoring game with a handful of home runs.
We need a bit more evidence before thinking about joining any Angels bandwagon, as any early momentum isn't going to be sustainable without consistency from the starting rotation. Already, key offseason add Yusei Kikuchi has lost his first three starts (including last night to the Rays), and the solid effort by today's starter Jose Soriano's vs. the Chisox March 29 didn't translate when he faced a real entry last Friday as Cleveland jumped all over him. Meanwhile, the Rays got back on course with last night's 5-4 win, and Zack Littell was very serviceable in his earlier home start, allowing just one run and four hits in 6 IP vs. the Pirates on March 29. Play Rays on Money Line.
