The Dodgers were 24-4 in August before entering this series with the Braves, but after losing the first three games, LA needs to win tonight to avoid being swept for only the second time this year! We know how great this Atlanta team has been, but sweeping the Dodgers in a four-game series on the road is certainly a tall task for any team. I expect the Dodgers' bullpen to be nearly fully available, and Charlie Morton, while pitching well of late, gave up six runs to this team earlier this year. At even money, I like the odds for LA to win.
Atlanta has looked awesome this series but will the Dodgers really be swept four at home? End of a very long trip through the West for the Braves so it would be a natural letdown spot behind Charlie Morton even as good as he has been lately. A lot of Dodgers have excellent career splits off him.
The biggest thing here for me is I can't see the Braves going into L.A. and sweeping the Dodgers in four games. The offense is due to bust out after averaging over six runs a game in August. Braves starter Charlie Morton has a 0.38 ERA in his last four games and he's 39 years old, so he's due for a clunker. The Dodgers hit him hard last year in Dodger Stadium and Freddie Freeman in particular has a good history against him. Dodgers rookie starter Bobby Miller has good stuff and threw very well against the Braves in his MLB debut a few months ago. This is a good spot, but, mostly, I just think there's some evening out to be done.
