I'm not backing Gerrit Cole every start this year, but he has been dominant in the early going and also dominated Cleveland in four starts last year including playoffs. The Guardians likely will be without their two best relievers, including All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase, as they have pitched the past two games. Myles Straw and Amed Rosario are both out of the Guards lineup. Rookie Hunter Gaddis makes his fifth big-league start dating to last year. The first three were terrible. He was good last time out but against the awful A's.
Yankees starter Gerrit Cole is 3-0 with a 2.33 ERA in Cleveland's Progressive Field in his career. Last year, he faced the Guardians twice in the regular season and twice in the playoffs. The Yankees won all four games and he only gave up five runs in 26 innings (1.73 ERA) while striking out 31. The Yankees also have a full bullpen after not using any of their top relievers in Monday's game. The Guardians counter with Hunter Gaddis, who threw six scoreless innings last time out, but that was against the lowly A's. Otherwise he's been terrible in his MLB starts (career 10.06 ERA overall) and had a 3.90 career ERA in the minors. This Yankees lineup is potent and it should lead to a lopsided game. Take the run line (-1.5, +100).
