Should Seattle even be a home dog? Consider that starting pitcher Chris Flexen (9-3, 3.35) has a 1.77 ERA in his past seven starts overall and has a 1.76 ERA at T-Mobile Park, the third-best home ERA in the majors among qualified pitchers. The Mariners are 38-21 between Thursday and Sunday this season and way under .500 the other days. Yes, Oakland's Sean Manaea (6-6, 3.28) was brilliant in Seattle earlier this year, but he hasn't won since mid-June and has a 5.29 ERA this month. The Mariners are 7-1 in their last eight home games vs. a left-handed starter. We'll take the Seattle RL (-135) to be safe.
I saw this line and immediately wanted to get my play in before it moves. The Mariners are much better at home this season going 29-20 and they are actually 25-25 against teams over .500. Chris Flexen has been much better at home and Sean Manaea has also been very good but the Mariners have been playing well against lefties recently despite their poor overall numbers. Take the Mariners at home.
The Mariners played in Colorado on Wednesday, while the Athletics were resting. The last time he pitched in Seattle, on June 2, Oakland lefty Sean Maneaa tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out eight while scattering four hits. Look for the A's to improve to 11-2 in their last 13 games following an off day.
I’ll pay the juice to back Oakland lefty Sean Manaea at Seattle's T-Mobile Park. In his last appearance there, he was the only pitcher the A’s needed as he threw a complete-game shutout. I would expect more of the same as some of Manaea’s recent struggles have come from the home run (five in the last three games), but the pitching environment in Seattle should help him out in that regard. Oakland is 40-22 when favored this year, and I think it grabs this win from the Mariners.
