Fantasy Baseball 2022 rankings: Relief pitcher tiers, where to draft closers vs. SPARPs and more strategies to know
Reliable Fantasy relievers seem to get in shorter supply every year, and in mid-March the Braves did their part to turn two excellent closers into one by signing Kenley Jansen and displacing Will Smith from the role. In roto leagues, that means there are even fewer dependable saves options to go around, so be prepared to pay up if you want them. In head-to-head leagues, particularly in points formats, a handful of SPARPs (starting pitchers as relief pitchers) can help save the day, and those players may even outscore the best closers in the league depending on your scoring system.
So how should you attack the position heading into your draft? I've done several mock and real snake and salary cap drafts heading into the 2022 MLB season, and I'm here to share the things I've learned so far. If you're a regular subscriber to SportsLine, you probably know me from dominating NFL picks for years, but did you know I actually got my start in sports media as a fantasy baseball analyst? I even finished No. 1 among all experts for my draft rankings the first year FantasyPros tracked MLB expert accuracy on their site.
Let's dive into the relief pitcher position with my tiers and talk about which players I'm more bullish on than the consensus. You can also check out my other positional ranking tiers at the links below.
