Buccaneers vs. Chiefs betting preview: Odds, picks, props, trends, injuries, weather and more for Week 9 Monday Night Football

Before you lock in your plays for Monday's Tampa Bay at Kansas City NFL game, check out our full betting preview.

The only Super Bowl that Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes has lost in four trips to the big game was to Tom Brady and Tampa Bay following the 2020 season. We get a rematch of sorts tonight as Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers (4-4), again without their two Pro Bowl receivers, visit Mahomes and the Chiefs (7-0) to conclude Week 9. We have had good weather seemingly for every primetime game so far in 2024 but that could change tonight at Arrowhead Stadium. The game kicks off at 8:15 ET on ABC and ESPN. Kansas City is -9 with a total of 45.5.

We suppose it's not impossible to see Bucs-Chiefs again this February in the Super Bowl in New Orleans. Kansas City is the NFL's last unbeaten team as it tries for an unprecedented threepeat and is the +400 Super Bowl favorite. In the NHL, the Presidents' Trophy winner (most regular-season points) hasn't won the Stanley Cup since the 2012-13 Chicago Blackhawks. What does this have to do with the NFL? One might think the final unbeaten team has a good track record of winning the Super Bowl, but it has only happened 10 times -- not since the 2006 Colts. The last two final unbeaten teams have made the Super Bowl but lost to the Chiefs (2023 49ers, 2022 Eagles).

Kansas City is the first team to start 7-0 after winning back-to-back Super Bowls since the 1990 49ers, who got off to a 10-0 start but lost in the NFC Championship Game to the Giants. The Chiefs' updated win total is over/under 14.5 -- the team record is 14 wins, done so twice (2020, 2022). Kansas City is -190 to finish with the NFL's best record.

Tampa Bay is the three-time defending NFC South champion but that streak looks likely to end, as the Bucs lost wideout Chris Godwin to a season-ending injury in Week 7. Future Hall of Fame WR Mike Evans was also injured in the same game and won't be back before Week 12.

The Bucs' chances of winning the South took a massive hit in their 31-26 home loss to Atlanta as the first-place Falcons swept the season series and now essentially have a three-game lead. Tampa Bay is now +180 to make the playoffs with No at -250. I lean No as I believe they'll lose here and then to the 49ers in Week 10 to fall to 4-6.
