2024 Philadelphia Eagles futures picks: Breaking down win totals, Super Bowl odds, schedule, depth chart and more
The 2023 Philadelphia Eagles seemingly staved off any concerns of a Super Bowl hangover for much of last season, jumping out to a 10-1 start after beating the Chiefs in Kansas City and then the Bills at home in overtime the following week. But that Bills game exposed what would be the fatal flaw of the team moving forward: an awful defense that surrendered more than 30 points per game the rest of the way, getting smoked twice by the Giants and once by the Cardinals at the end of the season before an uninspiring 32-9 wild-card loss to the Buccaneers. Thanks Matt Patricia!
Changes were clearly needed, and Nick Sirianni's staff is turning over both coordinators by bringing in established talents on both sides of the ball in Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio. The former delivered elite seasons as the Cowboys's offensive coordinator before an uneven year with the Chargers that was marred by several injuries to key players. Fangio wanted to come home and work for the Eagles, which should prove to be a godsend for a Philadelphia defense that needs a steady hand, as Fangio has consistently delivered excellent defenses at various stops as defensive coordinator and head coach.
Those new coordinators won't get to work with two franchise legends with Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox both retiring, but the Eagles have long planned for those departures and will shift recent draft picks Cam Jurgens and Jalen Carter into their roles after successful rookie seasons. The team also prioritized upgrading the secondary this offseason, landing two of the draft's best corners in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. If Fangio can work his magic, the Eagles have a chance to quickly return to dominance and give the 49ers a run for their money in the NFC.
