2024 NFL Draft Pick Value Chart: See how much every pick is worth based on recent NFL trades
The NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and as draft boards begin to crystalize for all 32 teams, the trade rumor mill will start working overtime on who could move up to get into position for the perfect prospect prior to draft night. The Minnesota Vikings have already completed a trade that on the surface puts them in great position to move up from No. 11, while the Buffalo Bills are seen as a trade-up candidate in the wake of trading No. 1 receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.
Trades aren't limited to before the draft, or course, and the majority of deals involving picks will happen after the draft gets underway on Thursday, April 25 at approximately 8 p.m. ET. But teams are facing a ticking clock to get deals done while the draft is ongoing, and they need to know ahead of time how to value every pick in the draft in order to feel good about completing a trade in a matter of minutes.
The Jimmy Johnson trade chart was the standard bearer during the 1990s and early 2000s and helped develop modern thinking of how to value NFL Draft picks. Nowadays, most teams will have their own trade charts, which are likely to be fluid from year to year based on the current state of each franchise.
Take one of the most consequential draft day trades in history. In 2017, the Buffalo Bills were not a quarterback away from competing, so they shipped the 10th overall pick away for No. 27, No. 91 and a first-round pick the following year. No. 10 then went to the Kansas City Chiefs, who used the pick to select Patrick Mahomes, and the rest is history. The following year, the Bills traded No. 12, No. 53 and No. 56 to get to No. 7 and select Josh Allen.
Since 2016, I've maintained my own NFL Draft Pick Value Chart based around every trade that has happened since that only involved draft picks. Each year, I tweak the formula due to what happened in the previous draft in order to prepare for the next one. At CBS Sports, the NFL Draft team uses this chart to help generate realistic trade scenarios for mock drafts and trade content, and I'm happy to share the chart with SportsLine subscribers below.
