2024 New York Giants futures picks: Breaking down win totals, Super Bowl odds, schedule, depth chart and more
The 2022 New York Giants were a surprise playoff team that even won a postseason game, but the market saw an overperforming squad that was projected to regress in 2023. Boy, did it. The offense fell apart even before Daniel Jones went down in Week 5 and only briefly returned before ending the year on IR, while the offensive line dealt with injury and ineffectiveness to give New York the third lowest-scoring team in the NFL. The defense didn't fare much better, with the team unable to find any complementary pass-rush help for Kayvon Thibodeaux and the secondary's struggles leading to allowing at least 30 points in six games.
The offseason brought about some key coaching changes at defensive coordinator and running the offensive line, and the team was able to add a signature star on both sides of the ball. On offense, that came in the form of Malik Nabers, who immediately becomes the franchise's best receiver since Odell Beckham Jr., who was the last Giants receiver to gain even 800 receiving yards in 2018 let alone sniff 1,000. On defense, the Giants traded for Brian Burns, who racked up 46 sacks in five seasons with the Panthers and helps give the Giants a signature strength to build around up front with Thibodeaux and Dexter Lawrence.
There are signs this team is moving in a positive direction, but on paper there's still plenty of work to do. Brian Daboll has shown in his first two years he can maximize his team's ceiling even when everything is falling apart, including going 3-3 with undrafted free agent Tommy DeVito at quarterback last year. The expectations for the Giants are very low with a win total of 6.5, and it won't take much Daboll magic to put them in position to beat that number if the steps taken this offseason prove fruitful.
