2024 Formula 1 schedule, F1 picks, odds: Mexican Grand Prix projected leaderboard, race prediction, start time from top model
The 2024 Mexican Grand Prix will be held on Sunday at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, with the light scheduled to go out at 4 p.m. ET. Red Bull's Max Verstappen is a five-time Mexican Grand Prix winner (an F1 record) and he still holds a 57-point lead in the F1 standings despite being winless in his last nine races.Â
However, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc is the +260 favorite in the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix odds after a win last week in the United States. He's followed by Verstappen and McLaren's Lando Norris at +280 in this week's F1 odds.
SportsLine's proven computer projection model simulated the Mexican GP 2024 10,000 times and come up with a surprising leaderboard.
Developed by daily Fantasy pro and SportsLine predictive data engineer Mike McClure, this proprietary Formula 1 prediction model takes into account a slew of factors including track history and recent results.
The model has been scorching hot when it comes to picking Formula 1 race events dating back to 2021. It nailed both of Charles Leclerc's wins in 2022, and at the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix, the model was strongly backing Verstappen as its top pick. The result: Verstappen dominated the field and ran away with a surprising victory.Â
It followed that up by calling Verstappen's win at the Rolex Emilia Romagna GP in April and nailed Verstappen to win in Belgium, the Netherlands, Japan, the United States, Mexico and Abu Dhabi. It also called all 19 of Verstappen's wins during the 2023 season and nailed each of his seven wins in 2024 while also nailing Norris as a +200 winner in the Netherlands and then again as a +190 winner in Singapore!Â
It also called Alex Albon to finish in a points position for a plus-money payout before he went on to finish seventh in Azerbaijan and nailed a double podium for McLaren for a plus-money payout in Singapore too. Anyone who followed the model's lead on those plays has seen HUGE returns!
Autdromo Hermanos Rodrguez is named after Mexican racing legends Ricardo and Pedro Rodriguez, brothers who tragically both died in behind-the-wheel accidents. The track has hosted every Mexican Grand Prix since Formula 1 first visited Mexico in 1962, though there have been a pair of extended hiatuses. Verstappen has won the last three Mexican Grand Prix while Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes (2016, 2019) is the only other past winner of this race in the field.
Now, the model has dialed in on the 2024 Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix and just released its coveted picks and leaderboard projections.Â
We can tell you the model is predicting a points finish for RB Formula One's Yuki Tsunoda that would pay out +175. Tsunoda is currently 12th in the 2024 F1 standings but he's hot on Lance Stroll's heels (two points) to move into 11th and is just seven points shy of Nico Hulkenberg to break into the top 10.
Tsunoda has had seven points finishes (10th or better) already this season to tie a career-high and a 12th-place finish in the drivers' standings would be a career high. However, with RB trailing Haas by two points for sixth in the constructors' standing, Tsunoda could use a big performance in Mexico to help position his team for success next year and beyond.
The model has also made its win prediction and is also targeting one significant underdog to make a charge up the leaderboard! Anyone who backs this driver could hit it BIG. You ABSOLUTELY need to see who he is before locking in any Formula 1 Mexican GP picks of your own.
