A spot in the final is on the line when Spain and Sweden face off Tuesday in the first semifinal at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. The match at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand is a matchup of two of the top six teams in the FIFA world rankings, with the Swedes No. 3 and Spain ranked sixth. Spain lost to the USWNT in a 2019 Round of 16 game, their only other knockout-round match at the World Cup before this season. Sweden have lost in the semifinals three previous times and lost to the USWNT in the 2003 Women's World Cup final. The winner moves on to the Aug. 19 final to face Australia or England.
