Serious Scientists
SDQL Gurus are a team of serious scientists who use risk management, artificial intelligence, and the Sports Data Query Language (SDQL) database to capitalize on inefficiencies in the betting market. Overnight, the team runs 500 million SDQL queries, each of which describes a different handicapping situation, and outputs the top trends in past performance that apply to that day's slate. Dr. Edwin Meyer -- a PhD in physics who authored a six-part series for Card Player Magazine on how to beat NFL teasers -- leads the team. He gives classes in Vegas on the SDQL. In 2019, Meyer teamed up with Nate Bianco, aka the SDQL Kid, to win the Wise Guys Football Handicapping Contest. Dr. Meyer’s primary focus is using the SDQL to uncover conditions in which the betting line is significantly different from what it should be. His brother, Dr. Thomas Meyer, is a PhD in nonlinear physics and co-founder of the Prediction Company, a highly successful financial firm that specialized in predicting stocks and bonds. In 2019, he also began to focus his attention on sports, using years of AI expertise to uncover predictive relationships contained within sports data. Debuting with SportsLine in 2020, the SDQL Gurus have gone 39-22 (64 percent) on college basketball picks, returning $1,421 to $100 players. For media inquiries, contact SportsLine@CBSInteractive.com.
