Another cool and breezy night at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie. Wyoming's defense isn't great, but it limits big plays, and is going against a Rams offense that could be down a few guys. All that and the elements mean this one is likely to be lower scoring.
Wyoming has cooled off a little bit after a 5-1 start to the season with back-to-back road losses against Air Force and Boise State, with the Cowboys' offense only totaling a woeful 112 yards in the loss on the Smurf Turf last week. With a Colorado State team in town that throws the ball more than anyone else in the Mountain West, look for Wyoming to slow the pace and lean on its defense to make plays in the red zone to limit the Rams' output. Oh yeah, and it's gon' be windy in Laramie. With 17 mph winds around kickoff, that's not ideal for pass-happy offenses.
No clue if Wyoming covers this spread, but Colorado State could be without star WR Tory Horton and top running back Avery Morton. This would only jump if so, and I believe Wyoming holds serve at home even if they do play -- Horton is not close to 100 percent and has 70 catches for 796 yards and six TDs on the year. Wyoming is unbeaten at home. Half unit due to price even though this would be a Top 10 favorite play of the year, most likely, if those two CSU guys are out.
The Bronze Boot is awarded to the winner in a rivalry called the Border War. Colorado State is 3-5 giving this game a must win feel and Wyoming is 5-3 but just 2-2 in conference. The Cowboys love to run the football and play at a very slow pace. Winds will be 10-20 in Laramie on Friday night. My model has Wyoming winning 20-13.
