There will be plenty of offense in this contest. Coastal Carolina is No. 1 in the nation in yards per play (8.8), but more importantly, it is first with an average of 48.8 points per game as it has scored 50 or more in four of its six games. The Over has hit in two of Appalachian State's three home games. The Mountaineers' offense ranks 42nd, gaining 6.2 yards per play, while their defense is 68th with an average of 5.5 yards allowed.
The Mountaineers looked terrible last week, amassing 211 yards while committing four turnovers. Yes, running back Camerun Peoples was missing last week due to an undisclosed injury. He is questionable tonight but I don’t think he suits up. The Chanticleers are rolling, as they're 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS. They average 557.5 yards and 48.8 points and allow only 15 points per game. Look for Coastal Carolina to dominate.
Coastal Carolina is awesome, but this line feels a bit inflated simply with how bad App State looked last week in a bit of a fluke at Louisiana. The Mountaineers are quite different at home (27-4 there vs. Sun Belt teams since joining the league) and it should be a zoo in Boone as the Chants are the highest-ranked FBS opponent to ever visit Kidd Brewer Stadium. Coastal is 0-5 all-time there. The Chants also have faced a very weak schedule thus far with their opponents a combined 11-26. App State could win outright but I think definitely can lose by less than six. The SportsLine Projection Model has CCU winning by five. Fine by me.
Coastal Carolina will be flirting with a New Year's Six bowl game if it keeps on winning. With the way teams above them are falling by the wayside, it's a prime opportunity for the Chanticleers to continue to move up in the Top 25 rankings. The only way they'll keep climbing is by having teams ahead of them lose and winning their own games with style points. That means making sure an already explosive and dynamic offense doesn't take its foot off the gas pedal when it's ahead by a few scores. This line feels pretty low for a team like Coastal versus an opponent in Appalachian State that just gave up 41 points against Louisiana.
