This has historically been an awful spot for the Terrapins under coach Mike Locksley -- a road game in prime time or any road game, for that matter. The Terrapins almost always look impressive in their first 2 weeks and that ends up being their peak. Two years ago, they went 1-5 on the road, with the sole victory coming against hapless Rutgers. Maryland looks to have some decent playmakers, but we've seen this before. Illinois is likely nowhere near as bad as it ahs looked the past two weeks in losses to UTSA and Virginia. If the Illini club that upset Nebraska in the opener comes back around, this should be a comfortable cover at a minimum.
It's good to see Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa finally settle in at the position. He's making smart decisions with the football and using his legs to create and extend plays. The Terrapins' offense looks much more in sync this season. Illinois will get back starting QB Brandon Peters in this game. Expect an up-and-down return for him, as Maryland's defense is playing some of its best ball.
