Rice begins the season with a new head coach in Rob Lanier. The Owls only return one starter from last season, and they did get some transfers via the portal but from lower-level schools. FIU returns nine seniors and plays a very aggressive style of basketball. The Panthers will utilize a full court press throughout the game which should lead to turnovers as they were top five in forced turnover percentage last season. Their defense could give this new look Rice team some fits in their home opener.
