Yes, it's a new season, but what we are relatively sure about in this matchup is that both of these teams can score. For the Zags a year ago, it was 84.5 ppg (8th nationally); Baylor 80.4 ppg. Both sides return not only experienced firepower but newcomers who should make a difference. For Gonzaga, watch Pepperdine transfer wing Michael Ajayi, who had his pick of portal destinations, plus ex-Temple/Arkansas G Khalif Battle (14.3 ppg), added to an already potent mix. Meanwhile, Baylor is raving about 6-5 frosh wing VI Edgecombe, a five-star addition, and if G Jeremy Roach's name sounds familiar, it should, as he's been a part of Duke contenders the past three seasons. Lots of firepower! Play Baylor-Gonzaga "Over" (at Spokane Arena)
College basketball returns Monday with a monstrous schedule, and this is the lone Top 25 matchup -- technically, it's a neutral-site game at Spokane Arena and not on the Gonzaga campus. The Zags bring back four starters from last season's Sweet 16 team and added two very good transfers in Pepperdine's Michael Ajayi and Arkansas' Khalif Battle. Baylor lost four starters but will be terrific as usual under Scott Drew, who turned down Kentucky this offseason. Have to take the team with more guys back and essentially at home.
