They like to call Madison Square Garden “Storrs South” for how UConn fans can take over the building, and that has me negating some if not all of the home court advantage. St. John’s will be primed for this one, coming out of the first meeting with a tough four-point loss in a game they felt they could win, but that was also the first game without 7-2 big man Donovan Clingan in the lineup. He’s been back for a few games now, and I think UConn flexes its spot as one of the best teams in the country winning by multiple possessions.
This game is being played at Madison Square Garden a two-hour train ride from Storrs. Rick Pittno is already complaining that this game isn't played at the cozy Carnesecca Arena on campus. The Huskies will have their fair share of fans. They are are far better team and as long at they are motivatied they should win by double digits. My model has UConn by 13. I bet a double play.
Rick Pitino is running out of chances to impress the Selection Committee and force St John's into winning the big East Tourney for its only route to the Dance. But thw Johnnies have played UConn as tough as anybody the past two years, beating them in Storrs last season and coming close again a couple of weeks ago at Gampel Pavilion. Two missed free throws by Chris Ludlum in the final 17 seconds prevented the Red Storm from perhaps forcing OT, but once again the fundamental matchups were tricky for the Huskies. UConn has also been forced to scramble for wins in two of tis last three games. Play St John's
In December, the Connecticut Huskies won against St. Johns with a score of 69-65. They were 11-point home favorites. The Red Storm has been eagerly waiting for a rematch ever since. They have a great chance to defeat the top-ranked team in the nation. St. Johns has played the tenth most challenging schedule, while Uconn is ranked 51st in the strength of schedule. The Red Storm are 8-2 at home and have a higher consistency per possession, considering turnovers, steals, blocks, rebounds, and points. These key metrics are averaged together, and the Red Storm ranks higher than the Huskies. I like the home team quite a bit!
