The dynamics surrounding the Leafs are different this season. The reason likely is HC Craig Berube, who has worked magic before in his first year on the job (St Louis 2019) and just the sort of no-nonsense coach the Leafs needed after Sheldon Keefe was more of a babysitter the past few years. The Leafs might not have been mature enough as a team to deal with Mike Babcock, fired late in 2019, but seem much better able to handle a coach like Berube in 2025.
