The Kings are certainly a good team but not quite as good without injured All-Star defenseman Drew Doughty. Plus, a 10 a.m. Pacific puck drop. I don't have NHL stats in front of me, just a pint of Guinness (yeah, it's 10:13 a.m. ET but I have a ton of yard work to do thanks to Milton so there's my justification; also Ted Lasso is on in the background. Sorry, I can't watch Nick Saban give death stares to Pat McAfee on GameDay in the dark in Eugene) but I sure know that West Coast NFL teams generally don't fare well with those early kicks. The Bruins are off to a stellar offensive start.
Boston is still sorting out some rough edges, but the Bruins looked like they were in the process of working out their kinks in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Canadiens. Jeremy Swayman's first start of the season in goal was a bit shaky...but good enough. Better news for Jim Montgomery is the offense has already scored 10 goals in two games, with David Pastnak off to a quick start with a goal in each of the first two games. The Kings waited until the third period to score (a hat-trick by Anze Kopitar) vs. Buffalo and eventually beat the Sabres on opening night, but new goalie Darcy Kuemper figures to be under a lot more pressure at TD Garden. Play Bruins on Puck Line (-1)
