Super Bowl 56 odds: Rams acquire Pro Bowl pass-rusher Von Miller, to pair with Aaron Donald, ahead of NFL Trade Deadline

The Los Angeles Rams have acquired one of the NFL's best pass rushers in Broncos linebacker Von Miller.

The Los Angeles Rams clearly want to follow what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did last NFL season: Play and win a Super Bowl in their home stadium. LA's chances of doing that this February certainly got at least a bit better Monday when the team acquired eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker and former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller from the Denver Broncos in exchange for two 2022 draft picks. The Rams are currently +700 third-favorites at Caesars Sportsbook to win Super Bowl 56 behind Buffalo (+550) and Tampa Bay (+600). At some books, the Rams' Super Bowl odds got a bit shorter after this deal but not yet at Caesars.

It's not clear if Miller will make his Rams debut on the Sunday night game in Week 9 against the Tennessee Titans – who won't have Derrick Henry – because he missed Denver's Week 8 win over Washington with an ankle injury. The three-time first-team All-Pro, four-time second-team All-Pro, 2011 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Super Bowl 50 MVP and member of the NFL's 2010s All-Decade Team has 4.5 sacks this season and 110.5 career.

The Rams had the No. 1 defense in the NFL last season but it has not been as dominant in 2021, allowing 367.5 yards and 21.0 points per game. They do already lead the NFL with 25 sacks, however. That unit now will have three likely future Hall of Famers in Miller, three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald and cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The two highest-graded defensive linemen in the NFL via Pro Football Focus since 2011 are Donald are 97.6 and Miller at 94.6 (Miller lines up at end at times).

Los Angeles still isn't even a favorite in its own NFC West Division, priced +110 behind the Arizona Cardinals (-125). They are both 7-1, but Arizona currently owns the tiebreaker. The Rams would own one over the Bucs if it comes down to those two for the NFC's top seed thanks to a 34-24 Rams home win over Tampa Bay in Week 3.

L.A. has now traded away picks in Rounds 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 in next year's draft; the first-rounder as part of the Matthew Stafford deal.

Why would the Broncos (4-4) trade Miller when they are battling for a playoff spot of their own? Because the 32-year-old is set for unrestricted free agency this winter and has had trouble staying healthy in recent years -- he missed all of 2021. Denver reportedly got a second- and third-round pick next year for him, which is a solid price for a rental. As part of the trade, the Broncos are paying $9 million of Miller's remaining $9.7 million salary.
