Super Bowl 56 odds boost for Rams: Odell Beckham Jr. signs with Los Angeles, should debut Week 12 vs. Packers

Odell Beckham Jr. is headed to the Los Angeles Rams.

It was quite an afternoon involving Odell Beckham Jr. news. In this age of Twitter, NFL reporters obviously want to get breaking news out as soon as possible. ESPN's Adam Schefter first tweeted that the three-time Pro Bowl receiver, released this week by the Browns, was expected to sign with the Los Angeles Rams, but then a few other sources reported the Packers were still in the mix. Now, though, OBJ to the Rams is done. Circle Week 12: Rams at Packers.

Early this week, the consensus was that Beckham had pared his list to the Packers, Chiefs and Saints with the Seahawks and Patriots on the periphery. The Rams somewhat came out of nowhere, but they have been star-hunting since last offseason in an all-in effort to win Super Bowl 56 in their own stadium by adding the likes of Matthew Stafford and Von Miller.

Stafford already has an Offensive Player of the Year candidate at receiver in Cooper Kupp, who leads the NFL with 103 catches, 1,019 yards and 10 touchdowns as he looks for the "Triple Crown." Robert Woods and Van Jefferson are no slouches at wideout themselves. Beckham essentially replaces the released DeSean Jackson. Maybe even more important: The Rams kept OBJ from Green Bay, a potential playoff opponent.

Presumably, Beckham Jr. will not play for the Rams on Monday night at San Francisco and then Los Angeles is on the bye in Week 11 before that mega-showdown Nov. 28 at the Packers. If you are wondering, the Rams don't play the Browns.

The Super Bowl 56 odds of Los Angeles are likely to shrink slightly by adding Beckham even though he has disappointed the past two injury-plagued season. Oddsmakers understand the public and how big-name players draw betting action, so they will shift them a bit simply to stir up action. Currently, Los Angeles is a +750 third favorite at Caesars Sportsbook to win Super Bowl 56 and +400 second favorite for the NFC title.

SportsLine Projection Model creator Stephen Oh said Beckham didn't "move the needle" much on Rams simulations because "he hasn't been productive for the last two seasons."
