Russell Wilson odds: Lions-Seahawks NFL Week 17 matchup favored to be quarterback's final home game in Seattle

Will Sunday be Russell Wilson's final home game as a member of the Seahawks?

Sunday's Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks game is meaningless in the grand scheme of things as the Lions "chase" the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and the Seahawks play out their first losing season since drafting Russell Wilson in 2012. However, there is one major storyline: Will it be Wilson's final home game in Seattle as a member of the Seahawks (they close at Arizona)? SportsLine oddsmakers favor yes.

One of the big NFL stories last winter was Wilson considering forcing his way out of the Pacific Northwest because he perhaps wasn't on the same page any longer with Coach Pete Carroll and was tired of being battered behind the Seattle offensive line. Things have only gotten worse this season, which has easily been Wilson's worst.

This will be just the third time in 12 seasons under Carroll and general manager John Schneider that the Seahawks have not made the playoffs, and it's the first time they'll finish last in their division since 1996, when they were playing in the AFC West. Thus, it's widely assumed around the league that Wilson will be dealt as Seattle reboots. The team doesn't have a first-round pick in the 2022 draft because of the Jamal Adams swap. Trading Wilson obviously would land multiple first rounders.

We won't deal with Wilson next team odds quite yet, but last winter he reportedly would have approved a trade to the Cowboys, Saints, Raiders and Bears. Dallas and Chicago are set at QB now. New Orleans and Las Vegas are definite 2022 possibilities along with Washington, the New York Giants, Pittsburgh, Denver and Carolina. Wilson is one of the few players in the NFL with a no-trade clause.

On Thursday, Wilson was asked a follow-up question about his desire to win three more Super Bowls before he retired. Somewhat out of left field, Wilson said this: "I know for me personally, I hope it's not my last game (in Seattle). But at the same time, I know it won't be my last game in the NFL. I'm just focused on today and getting better today. That's my goal. I love this city and I love this moment. I love these guys and we gotta make sure we get better today. That's all that matters."

Wilson has been wildly inconsistent since returning from a finger injury. In Weeks 10-12, the Seahawks were 0-3 and Wilson's passer rating of 73.2 was 26th in the league. In Weeks 13-14, the Seahawks were 2-0 and Wilson's rating of 107.9 was seventh. In Weeks 15-16, the Hawks were 0-2 and Wilson's rating was 78.0, which was 27th. His career rating is 101.5, which is No. 4 all-time.

On the other side, it's looking as if Lions QB Jared Goff will sit again after missing Week 16 in the protocols. He's out of those but dealing with a knee injury. Tim Boyle would make a second straight start if Goff can't. Detroit is a sterling 9-2 ATS as an underdog of at least six points this season and is currently +7.5 at Caesars Sportsbook.
