NFL odds: Jaguars may be underdogs in every 2020 game like Dolphins were in 2019

It's quite possible the Jacksonville Jaguars will not be favored once in the 2020 season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have the lowest win total of any team for the 2020 NFL regular season at William Hill sportsbook with an Over-Under total of 4.5, although the Over is a slight -130 favorite on the moneyline odds. After winning 10 games and reaching the AFC title game in 2017 and almost winning that, the Jags have combined for only 11 victories the previous two seasons.

In 2019, every team in the NFL was a favorite at least once but one: The "tanking" Miami Dolphins. They finished a very respectable 9-7 against the spread, tied for the most ATS wins among teams that finished with a losing straight up record.

Jacksonville was 2-2 ATS as a favorite last year and 5-7 as an underdog. Here is where the Jags closed as favorites and oddly it happened in four straight games.

Week 6 vs. New Orleans at -2.5: Jaguars lost 13-6

Week 7 in Cincinnati at -4.5: Jaguars won 27-17

Week 8 vs. NY Jets at -7: Jaguars won 29-15

Week 9 vs. Houston at -1: Jaguars lost 26-3

As of now, SportsLine oddsmakers don't forecast Jacksonville to be favored in any 2020 games, although injuries, lack of motivation by opponent (may have already clinched a playoff spot, etc.) could change things.

On the road, the Jaguars project as at least touchdown underdogs in all eight games, with a high of 16 in Baltimore – that is the highest projected spread in the entire season. The two realistic chances where the Jaguars would be favored are at home in Week 3 vs. Miami (Thursday night) and Week 6 vs. Detroit. The Lions and Dolphins currently project as very short favorites.

The Jaguars already have caught one break this season in that both their games in London were shifted back to Jacksonville due to the coronavirus. In the NFL, "true" home teams win between 55-60 percent of the time all other things being equal. It wasn't clear who the Jags were going to play in London, but the Steelers, Bears and Dolphins had been ruled out. So it was going to be two of the Texans, Colts, Titans, Browns and Lions.

There is one potential big prize awaiting the Jaguars if they finish with the NFL's worst straight-up record in 2020: Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the top pick in the 2021 draft.
