NFL odds: Cleveland Browns could swoop in and sign Jadeveon Clowney

There are no American sports leagues ongoing right now due to the coronavirus, so even minor NFL transactions get noticed more than they would typically this time of year when the NBA, NHL, Major League Baseball and NCAA Tournament would hog the spotlight.
On Tuesday, the Seattle Seahawks released tight end Ed Dickson and safety Tedric Thompson, which usually wouldn't make a national blip, but it cleared up $5 million or so of salary cap space. That leaves Seattle with around $15 million of cap space per Overthecap.com.
That's not quite enough to re-sign three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Jadeveon Clowney as he is demanding $20 million per season, but it's certainly much closer – Seattle still has to use any cap space to sign 2020 draft picks. The Seahawks reportedly have offered $18.5 million per year and that may be the best Clowney can hope for. Clowney was traded to Seattle from Houston last year.
Last week when SportsLine oddsmakers put out a prop on which team would sign Clowney, Seattle was the -120 betting favorite and it still is. However, there are rumors the Cleveland Browns might try to swoop in and land Clowney on a one-year big-money deal as the Browns have the most salary-cap space remaining in the NFL at a bit more than $40 million.
Imagine a defense with Myles Garrett at one end spot and Clowney at the other. Cleveland did just sign veteran defensive end Adrian Clayborn to a two-year $6 million deal, but he's almost 32 and had just four sacks last year. Clayborn is more of a rotational depth player at this point. Cleveland is +4000 to win Super Bowl 55 at William Hill sportsbook.
The Tennessee Titans are still considered a possibility for Clowney, who may not sign until after this month's draft. Teams are not meeting his price as the former No. 1 overall pick has started all 16 games just once in his career and yet to have 10 sacks in a season. He also is coming off sports hernia surgery in January and has had multiple surgeries overall as a pro.
