Chiefs vs. Bucs Super Bowl 55 odds, props, pick: Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce favored as first touchdown scorer

Who scores the first touchdown in Super Bowl 55? William Hill Sportsbook favors two Chiefs pass-catchers.

With all due respect to Tom Brady, the Kansas City Chiefs have the best quarterback in the NFL in Patrick Mahomes. Thus, it's more likely than not that the first touchdown the Chiefs score in Super Bowl 55 on Feb. 7 against Brady's Bucs in Tampa will be via Mahomes' arm. William Hill Sportsbook lists Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill and tight end Travis Kelce as the co-favorites at +650 on the moneyline to be the first TD scorer of the game. Mahomes being the first – which would mean via rush or reception – is +1600.

In last season's Super Bowl in Miami, Mahomes was the first TD scorer on a 1-yard run late in the first quarter against the San Francisco 49ers to give Kansas City a 7-3 lead. He rushed for just two scores this season, and considering Mahomes is dealing with a toe injury it seems unlikely that Andy Reid would put him in harm's way on a quarterback sneak or the like.

Hill had a career-high 15 receiving scores during the regular season and also two rushing. He hasn't scored in these playoffs but has been a difference-maker with 17 catches for 282 yards in wins over the Browns and Bills. Kelce caught 11 TD passes this season and had one TD vs. Cleveland and two vs. Buffalo. He has a legit shot to become the first tight end to win Super Bowl MVP honors – we'll have more on that later this week.

Bucs receiver Mike Evans and running back Leonard Fournette are both +1000 to be the first TD scorer of the game. Evans set a career high with 13 TD grabs this season and had a TD catch in both the NFC title game against Green Bay and in the divisional round vs. the Saints.

Fournette had six rushing scores during the regular season – generally as the No. 2 tailback behind Ronald Jones (+1800) -- and has a rushing TD in two of the three playoff games. He seems to have overtaken a banged-up Jones as the No. 1 back. Brady is +2800 to score the first TD. He still runs occasionally with three rushing scores during the season and another in the divisional round in New Orleans.

That there's no touchdown scored at all in the Super Bowl is +50000 – that has never happened. The lowest-scoring Super Bowl was after the 2018 season when Brady's Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3.
