2022 Super Bowl 56 odds, trends: Bettors crushing over props on Bengals kicker Evan McPherson, Rams counterpart Matt Gay

Bettors at Caesars Sportsbook are very optimistic on the two kickers for Super Bowl 56.

Last week, we touched on the fact that no kicker had ever won Super Bowl MVP honors but that Cincinnati Bengals rookie Evan McPherson might have a legitimate shot in a lower-scoring game if he makes at least three field goals to set a single-postseason record. Well, McPherson actually has risen to +7500 on that prop at Caesars Sportsbook, but bettors are absolutely crushing several Over props on McPherson for Sunday's Super Bowl 56 as well as Rams kicker Matt Gay.

McPherson is 12-for-12 in these playoffs – the postseason record is 14 made field goals by Adam Vinatieri – and has two walk-off winners. The former Florida Gator has an Over/Under of just 1.5 made field goals Sunday and Over (-130) is one of the most-wagered props at the book. Thus far, 93 percent of tickets and 83 percent of money are on the Over.  The Over on McPherson with 7.5 total points has taken 92 percent of tickets and 95 percent of money.

"In 20-odd years of doing this, I don't think I've ever seen a kicker prop in the Top 10 of props," said Craig Mucklow, Vice President of Trading at Caesars Sportsbook. "At the moment, McPherson Over total field goals made is the seventh-most popular prop by tickets. He's been money, and seeing a kicker in the Top 10 is fabulous because it just shows how much interest he's garnered."

The Rams' Gay is also set at Over/Under 1.5 field goals made and 7.5 points, with 89 percent of tickets and 76 percent of money on the Over field goals and 66 percent and 76 percent, respectively, on Over 7.5 points. Yet the biggest lean on Gay is Over 2.5 made extra points (+105) with 99 percent of tickets and money.

McPherson has missed only five field goals all season including playoffs and Gay four. Thus, that either team misses two or more field goals is a +600 long shot with no at -900. Ninety-nine percent of money and 92 percent of tickets are on no. The most field goals made in one Super Bowl by both teams is five, set a few times. There have been zero made twice and not since SB 9.

As for punting, there's an Over/Under of 6.5 total punts with 90 percent of the total tickets and 99 percent of the money on the Over, pushing that up from -120 to -150. The record for most punts in a Super Bowl is 11 between the Giants and Ravens in 35 and the fewest is zero between the Patriots and Eagles in SB 52.
