Chicago has lost Justin Steele’s last three starts. Steele has been pitching better since the end of May, minus two recent starts where he allowed five runs to both the Diamondbacks and Reds. He’s yet to face St. Louis this season but still owns a 3.80 home ERA. Mile Mikolas has faced the Cubs three times and has pitched very well besides the six-run outing in July. Chicago continues to struggle against righties at home, hitting .206 with a .615 OPS over the last month.
It might be too dramatic to call that win a season-saver for the Cards on Saturday, but when trailing 4-1 into the late innings, the prospect of getting swept four at Chicago this weekend seemed all too real. Instead, a late rally netted a 5-4 win, and suddenly a split is in the frame tonight, especially against a recently-struggling Cubs starter Justin Steele, in whose last three starts has an ERA of 7.20 and a WHIP of 2.00. Note Miles Mikolas got the win in his last start at Wrigley on June 16, allowing just one run and four hits thru 6 1/3 IP of a 2-1 St. Louis win. Play Cards on Money Line
