Guess we understand why Atlanta is a solid road favorite because in name value Spencer Strider is a stud and has dominated the Phillies in his regular-season career. However, he has not been stud-like (spud-like?) of late in allowing 13 runs and 15 hits over nine innings in his past two. Phillies counterpart Ranger Suarez has a 0.90 ERA in three starts this month. This marks only the seventh time since 2004 that two teams meet having won at least six in a row (see news feed).
At first glance, the pitching matchup looks tasty here between Spencer Strider and Ranger Suarez. Strider has hit a rough patch, though, with a 5.55 ERA in his last nine starts and a particularly dreadful last two outings. The Phillies' offense is going well right now and they've seen him so much these past two seasons that I love for the chance for the familiarity to pay off. Suarez has been excellent recently, but he's left handed and the Braves hit .301/.359/.545 against lefties. Though both bullpens are capable of dominance, neither has been the model of reliability. We don't need a slugfest, just something like 6-3 or 5-4 gets us home here and I love the odds of that happening.
