The Pirates rank 27th in OPS versus lefties -- tonight they face Trevor Rogers -- and they're trotting out arguably the worst lineup among the teams playing Monday. Bryan Reynolds (15 homers) just went on the injured list with a strained oblique. He leads Pittsburgh in batting average, on-base percentage and home runs. Miami has won eight of 11 overall as well as eight of its past 11 at home. Look for the Marlins to build off their extra-inning win in New York and improve their Wild Card hopes.
This is an interesting matchup because both teams will have multiple top relievers unavailable, so it will kind of be a battle of the bullpen depth with neither of these starters getting deep into games either. David Bednar, Will Crowe, and Duane Underwood Jr. all pitched each of the last two days and three of the last four days. It’s possible we see them tonight, but I highly doubt it for the young team that has nothing to gain by forcing them in there for an extra win. The Marlins had both Tanner Scott and Anthony Bass pitch each of the last three nights so they should both be unavailable. The Pirates are 12-18 in their last 30 and 5-12 on the road in that time and they are 16-27 on the road overall. The Marlins are much better at home at 20-17 and they are 9-6 in their last 15 games. Brian Reynolds was also just added to the IL. Take the Marlins at home.
